Homemade Stuffing Recipe
Homemade stuffing is a must-have dish during the holiday season, offering a comforting blend of flavors and textures that perfectly complement a roast turkey or chicken. This recipe is simple, customizable, and sure to become a family favorite.
Ingredients:
1 loaf of day-old bread, cubed
1 onion, finely chopped
2 celery stalks, diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 cup butter
2 cups chicken or vegetable broth
1 tablespoon fresh sage, chopped (or 1 teaspoon dried)
1 tablespoon fresh thyme, chopped (or 1 teaspoon dried)
Salt and pepper to taste
1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
1 egg, beaten (optional)
Instructions:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Spread the bread cubes on a baking sheet and toast in the oven for about 10 minutes, or until they are lightly golden and slightly crispy. This helps the bread hold up to the broth without becoming too soggy.
In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the onion, celery, and garlic, and sauté until the vegetables are soft and fragrant, about 8-10 minutes.
Stir in the sage, thyme, salt, and pepper, allowing the herbs to release their aroma.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the toasted bread cubes and sautéed vegetables. Gradually pour in the broth, stirring gently to combine. The mixture should be moist but not too wet. If you prefer a richer stuffing, you can mix in the beaten egg at this stage.
Transfer the stuffing to a greased baking dish, cover with foil, and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and crispy.
Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
This stuffing is the perfect side dish for your holiday feast. Feel free to add extras like sausage, apples, or nuts to make it your own.
