Here’s a simple guide to making Hot Cocoa Mix Jars—an easy and fun gift that’s delicious and visually appealing!
Ingredients (per jar):
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder (unsweetened)
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup powdered milk (optional, but adds creaminess)
- 1/4 cup mini chocolate chips (optional, for an extra chocolate boost)
- 1/4 teaspoon salt (optional, balances sweetness)
- 1/3 cup mini marshmallows
Materials Needed:
- 1-pint mason jar (or any small glass jar with a lid)
- Spoon for layering
- Decorative ribbon or label (optional)
Instructions:
- Add the Cocoa Layer
Spoon 1/2 cup of cocoa powder into the bottom of the jar, spreading it evenly. - Add the Sugar Layer
Carefully add 1/2 cup of granulated sugar on top of the cocoa powder for a neat layered look. - Add the Powdered Milk (Optional)
If using, layer 1/4 cup powdered milk on top of the sugar. This step adds creaminess when the mix is made. - Add Chocolate Chips and Salt (Optional)
Sprinkle 1/4 cup mini chocolate chips and 1/4 teaspoon salt on top. This makes the hot cocoa extra chocolatey. - Top with Marshmallows
Fill the rest of the jar with mini marshmallows, about 1/3 cup or enough to reach the top of the jar. - Seal and Decorate
Close the jar tightly with the lid, add a ribbon, and attach a tag with the following instructions for the recipient:
