the Advent Calendar

The Advent calendar tradition, which started in 19th-century Germany, helps families count down to Christmas by offering a daily treat, small gift, or message leading up to December 25. Traditionally, the calendar had 24 doors or windows, each revealing a surprise that built excitement for Christmas Day. Originally, it featured religious images or Bible verses, but over time it has expanded to include chocolates, toys, and other small surprises.

You can easily create your own Advent calendar at home, using a variety of containers or crafting materials, and fill each day with personalized items, such as handwritten notes, small gifts, or family activities, making the countdown special and personal for your loved ones. It doesn’t have to be a calendar with doors to open but can be a wide range of different containers with a number written on them to house larger or smaller gifts or treats for multiple children.
